Who are the  '4SKILLS ® L&R Tests' intended for?

The overall objective of the ‘4Skills Listening and Reading’ qualifications is to provide candidates with a qualification that they can use where the ability to read and write English is required.

​

The qualifications are suitable for:

​

  • non-native speakers of English worldwide

  • adults attending an English course

  • students learning English as part of their school or college curriculum

  • people needing English for their everyday or working life

  • learners attending short courses in English

Listening

 

Part 1: 7 multiple choice questions (with 3 options)
 

Task: 

  • Listen once  to 7 unfinished conversations between 2 speakers

  • 1 conversation in formal  

Part 2: 6 multiple choice questions (with 3 options)
 

Task: 

  • Listen once to 3 conversations between 2 speakers to understand: topic, purpose, context, feeling and opinions

  • Decide how to react or response to continue each question 

Part 3: 7 questions (write notes on the message pad based on information in the recording) 
 

Task: 

  • Listen once a radio broadcast or a presentation, to understand specific information

  • answers in 1 - 5 vocabularies 

Part 4:  6 multiple choice questions (each with 3 options)
 

Task: 

  • Listen once to a discussion to understand examples, fact, opinion, purpose,

  • Choose the appropriate answer for each question 

 

Reading

 

Part 1: 6 multiple choice questions (with 3 options)
 

Task: 

  • 1 long text: article, proposal etc

  • Choose the appropriate answer for each question 

 

Part 2:  6 multiple choice questions

Task: 

  • Fill in the blanks with a text including 6 sentences gapped,

  • Choose the best sentence gaps

 

Part 3: 7 questions (4 different texts)
 

Task: 

  • Read the 4 short texts, like email, article etc. and choose the best answer

  •  Part 4: 7 questions ( short answers at most 5 words)
     

Task: 

  • A text which is descriptive, explanator, instructive etc

 

Results and certificates

 

Results & e-certificate sent by email or to the Test Centre / School;

  • 3 – 5 business days for Online exams with remote, live invigilation  or computer – based exams

Hard-copy certificates will be sent to the candidate or to the Test Centre
